Dorado

Winds of 30-35 knots gusting 40 meant that the seas got up to a good size. We eventually poled out the scrap of genoa as the wind went East.  Justin put out the big orange lure with Phil's added silver skirt on a heavy line on Antony Wheatley's rod.  Later in the day Mark was on hand to fight in a big dorado which brought Phil from his bunk to despatch and fillet it with Justin.

It's been a rough sail and large seas have made a few of the crew rather queasy. But Justin and Siobhan served up a ginger and lime Mahi Mahi Thai curry which was much enjoyed.  Seasickness seems to bypass Justin and Siobhan, and I'm OK too at present, but Mark has been affected a bit and Phil much more so.,  However nay Tuesday morning he was eating Thai curry for breakfast and reading The Observer in the cabin!

I am trying to control our speed to arrive at dawn at the Oneata Passage through the outer Lau group of islands in Fiji. Beyond that is another 24 hour sail to another unlit passage which would be safer in daylight.

This morning the sun shone and we put out the fishing line on Antony's rod and at midday Mark reeled in a good sized dorado or Mahi Mahi which raised the spirits of the fishermen!
